Cordless stick vacuum spec sheets use different units than robot vacuums, and neither is standardized. Stick and upright brands (Dyson, Shark, and most Western brands) typically quote air watts (AW); robot vacuum brands typically quote Pa. Battery runtime is measured at the lowest power mode, not the mode you'll actually clean carpet on. And a HEPA-grade filter only filters as advertised if the vacuum body is actually sealed. Air watts vs Pa vs "suction power": three different marketing languages

Air watts (AW) combine suction pressure and airflow volume into one figure — it's the more complete measurement of real cleaning power, since a vacuum needs both pressure (to lift debris) and airflow (to carry it into the bin). Pascals (Pa) measure static suction pressure only, with no airflow component. "Suction power" as a plain marketing phrase, with no unit attached, means nothing verifiable at all. The category split is mostly historical: Dyson, Shark, and most Western stick/upright brands report air watts; most Pa-first marketing comes from the robot vacuum category (see this site's Robot Vacuum Reality Index and are Pa ratings comparable between brands). Neither unit is enforced by an independent industry-wide test standard, so a stick vacuum's "25,000 Pa" and a robot's "10,000 Pa" are not on the same scale, and even two stick vacuums both quoting Pa may not be tested identically.

Battery runtime: rated at the lowest power mode

Every cordless stick vacuum's advertised runtime is measured on eco/lowest power mode — the setting almost nobody uses for actual carpet or pet-hair cleaning. Switching to max or boost mode, which most people do at least part of a cleaning session, commonly cuts real runtime to a fraction of the advertised figure — often single-digit minutes on flagship models at full boost. If a spec sheet lists "up to 70 minutes" with no power-mode qualifier, assume that number describes the lightest possible cleaning mode, not a full-house carpet run.

Bin sizes, by class

Budget cordless sticks commonly carry a roughly 0.3-0.5L bin; mid-range models roughly 0.5-0.6L; premium/flagship models roughly 0.6-0.77L, with some offering an optional auto-empty dock. Bin size mostly determines how often you empty it, not how well the vacuum cleans — don't treat it as a proxy for suction or build quality.

Weight classes

Budget models are often nominally lighter because they carry a smaller battery and simpler motor, not necessarily better ergonomics.
